Terms of Use
Version: 1.0 Last updated: 2026-04-13
Welcome to Bounty. These Terms of Use ("Terms") are the agreement between you and 1905106 Alberta Inc. ("we", "us", "Bounty"), an Alberta corporation operating the Bounty service. By creating an account or using Bounty, you agree to these Terms.
A formal version with full legal clauses lives at Appendix B — Formal Terms. The two documents say the same things; if there's ever a conflict between this document and Appendix B, the plain-language version here governs your relationship with us.
What Bounty is
Bounty is a community-built tool for tracking grocery prices in Calgary. Scanners (people like you) photograph shelf tags at grocery stores. Bounty verifies the prices, builds a community dataset, and helps everyone answer a simple question: is this a good price?
Bounty is not a flyer aggregator. We don't scrape retailer websites. The data comes from real people scanning real shelves at real moments in time. That's the whole point.
Your account
To use most of Bounty, you need an account. To create one:
- You must be at least 13 years old.
- You provide an email address you can access and want to keep accessing. (Your email is also how we'd ever reach you about your account — see the Privacy Policy section on account recovery.)
- You choose a scan handle. It can be a pseudonym. Don't impersonate other people, organizations, or Bounty itself.
- One account per person. Don't create multiple accounts to game points or leaderboards.
You're responsible for what happens on your account. Keep your email secure. Use a strong unique password (or passkeys — passkeys are better).
Your scans
When you submit a scan, you're contributing to the community dataset. Here's the deal:
You confirm that:
- The photo is yours — you took it.
- The photo shows a real shelf tag at a real store, photographed by you in person.
- You aren't faking, manipulating, or staging the image.
You grant us a license to store, display, and aggregate your scan photos and the price data they contain, for the purpose of operating Bounty's services. We use the photos to verify the price, show your contribution back to you, and build the community dataset. We don't use them for marketing, advertising, or anything outside Bounty.
We may:
- Reject a scan if the photo isn't usable (bad lighting, wrong product, unclear price).
- Remove a scan if we have reason to believe it's fake, manipulated, or otherwise violates these Terms.
- Delete scan photos once they've served their purpose for verification and auditing.
If you ever want a specific photo of yours removed, contact us and we'll handle it.
Subscription billing
Bounty has a free tier (with a limited number of scans) and a paid subscription (currently $7.99 CAD per month, prices may change with notice).
- Inclusive pricing. The price you see is the price you pay. Subscription prices are shown in Canadian dollars and include applicable taxes (GST/HST). No checkout surprises.
- Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew monthly until you cancel. You can cancel anytime from your account settings.
- Cancellation. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You keep paid access until then.
- Refunds. We don't offer prorated refunds for partial months. If you believe you've been charged in error, contact us.
- Payment. Payment is handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.
- Past-due grace. If a payment fails, we'll keep your account active for a short grace period and try again. If it keeps failing, your subscription will lapse and you'll go back to the free tier.
- Price changes. If we change the subscription price for existing subscribers, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice by email and in-app before the new price applies to your account.
Points and rewards
Bounty awards points for verified scan contributions and other activities we may add over time.
What points are (and aren't)
- Points recognize your contribution to the community.
- Points are not currency, not a debt we owe you, and have no cash value until and unless you successfully redeem them.
- Points are non-transferable. They can't be gifted, sold, traded, or moved to another account. Ever.
- Points are tied to your account. If you delete your account, unredeemed points are forfeited.
Earning
How points are earned, and at what rate, is set by us and may change. We may cap earning rates, introduce diminishing returns, or adjust earning per category. These are mechanics of how points accrue, not a change in their redemption value, and aren't subject to the redemption notice period below.
Redemption
Redemption is currently a manual process:
- Generate a redemption code from within the Bounty app.
- Email the code to us at the address shown in the redemption flow.
- We verify the code, confirm the available reward options, and process your reward.
- Allow up to 14 days for delivery, depending on the reward.
Redemption is subject to availability of rewards and our acceptance of each redemption request. We may refuse redemptions where we have reason to believe the points were earned through fraud or violation of these Terms.
Changes to redemption values
We may change the value of points relative to rewards (for example, the number of points required for a given gift card). When we do:
- The redemption values in effect when you submit a redemption request are the values that apply to that redemption. We don't change the rate on you mid-transaction.
- For changes that affect future redemptions, we'll give at least 30 days' notice in-app and by email before the new values take effect. This gives you time to redeem at current values if you'd prefer.
This 30-day notice applies to redemption-value changes only. It doesn't apply to earning-rate adjustments, diminishing-returns mechanics, reward catalog changes, or temporary promotions.
Inactivity and forfeiture
If you don't use your Bounty account for 24 consecutive months (no scans, no logins), your unredeemed points will be forfeited. We'll send you a warning email at the 18-month mark to give you a chance to come back and redeem before then.
End of program
If we ever wind down the points program, we'll give you at least 60 days' notice by email and a final window to redeem any unredeemed points.
Tax
Rewards earned through ordinary scanning are intended as community recognition and, at current reward levels, are unlikely to create tax obligations for you. Scout-program payouts may be reportable income depending on your circumstances and the amounts involved; the Scout Agreement covers Scout-specific tax handling. You're responsible for any tax obligations on rewards you receive.
Scout program
The Scout program is an opt-in program for high-contribution scanners. It includes additional features, recognition, and (in future) potential cash payouts.
The detailed terms of the Scout program will be set out in a separate Scout Agreement at the time you opt in. Scout-specific obligations don't apply to regular Bounty users.
What you can't do
When using Bounty, you agree not to:
- Submit fake, manipulated, or staged scans.
- Submit photos that aren't of real shelf tags photographed by you in person.
- Use Bounty for any commercial purpose without our written permission.
- Scrape, crawl, or bulk-extract Bounty's data.
- Reverse-engineer Bounty or attempt to access systems you're not authorized to access.
- Harass, threaten, or abuse other scanners or Bounty staff.
- Create multiple accounts to manipulate points, leaderboards, or redemptions.
- Use Bounty to violate any law, including Alberta's Consumer Protection Act and Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation.
- Attempt to impersonate another scanner, Bounty itself, or any third party.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules, with or without notice depending on severity.
What we don't promise
We try hard to make Bounty accurate and useful, but we have to be honest about what we can and can't guarantee:
- Prices are scanner-reported. We verify them as best we can, but shelves change, tags get updated, and human errors happen. Bounty is a guide, not a guarantee. Always check the actual shelf when you're at the store.
- Bounty is not financial advice. We don't tell you what to buy or where. We help you decide.
- Service availability. We aim for high uptime, but we don't guarantee Bounty will always be available, error-free, or compatible with every device.
- Third-party data. Information we get from third parties (product databases, store hours, etc.) may be wrong or outdated. We're not responsible for inaccuracies in third-party data.
The formal disclaimers and liability limits are in Appendix B.
Closing your account
You can close your account anytime from your account settings. When you do:
- Your email, handle, and direct identifiers are removed from your scans.
- Your scan contributions remain in the community dataset in anonymized form.
- Unredeemed points are forfeited.
- Active subscriptions are not auto-cancelled — cancel your subscription separately if you want to stop billing.
We may suspend or close your account for cause (fraud, abuse, repeated violations of these Terms). For closures we initiate, we'll explain the reason where reasonably possible.
Changes to these Terms
We'll update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be:
- Announced in-app at least 30 days before they take effect.
- Notified to you by email at least 30 days before they take effect.
- Versioned (the version number at the top of this document goes up).
- Logged in the changelog at the bottom of this document.
Continued use of Bounty after a material change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms. If you don't accept them, you can close your account before the change date.
If we disagree
If we ever have a serious disagreement, Alberta law applies and Calgary is the place where any legal proceeding happens. We don't require you to give up your right to go to court — there's no arbitration clause and no class-action waiver in these Terms. Our liability is capped (the formal cap is in Appendix B).
We'd much rather work things out directly. Email [email protected] and we'll do our best to resolve any issue before it gets formal.
